According to reports, the Uttarakhand High Court banned water sports, paragliding and white water rafting in the state. The order was passed to safeguard the environment and the people and will stay until a proper policy is put up to regulate the sports.
The order was passed in response to a public interest litigation (PIL), filed by social-activist Hari Om Kashyap. Reportedly, the order was passed on Monday, but the copy was made available only on Thursday.
The order said, "The State government is directed to prepare the transparent policy within a period of two weeks. Till the policy is framed, no white river rafting, paragliding and other water sports shall be permitted in the state of Uttarakhand.”
