Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb recently said that beauty pageants are just for introducing international cosmetics into the country and always follow a fixed plan. Deb went on to say that women should look like Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati.
The CM compared 1997 Miss World champion, Diana Hayden with 1994 Miss World champion Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and stated that Diana did not deserve to win the crown. He reportedly said, Aishwarya Rai represents true Indian beauty and so her win was deserved.
Diana Hayden responded to his comment on Friday and said that it was 'hurtful'. She reportedly said, "Being brown-skinned, I've had to fight the 'light skin is better' issue we have in India. I felt so strongly about it that I turned down a fairness cream ad because it went against my belief. Shame on him as our beautiful, exotic brown colouring is to be proud of. I sure am!"
