People can soon get rid of the physical police verification for getting a passport since the process is likely to go online within a year. The Centre reportedly plans to link the process with Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems Project (CCTNS). The CCTNS, “exhaustive national database of crimes and criminals”, is a project first conceptualised by the UPA government in 2009. CCTNS will allow law enforcement agencies to track crimes and criminals in real time, say reports.
