The recent Maharashtra elections turned out to one of its kind with unexpected twists and turn at regular intervals. While Shiv Sena head Uddhav Thackeray is set to be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, there is a story about a young 28-year-old woman who played a major part for the NCP-Shiv Sena fightback in the 'Maha Political Thriller'.
Sonia Duhan heads the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) students union who actively involved herself in the rescue operations of 4 NCP MLAs who were hidden by BJP to prove their majority. After the senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar allied with BJP, 4 NCP MLAs were escorted by BJP members as per reports. Therefore, a special team headed by Sonia Duhan and NCP Youth Wing leader Dhiraj Sharma was allotted to rescue the MLAs.
24-Hour Operation
Sonia Duhan had successfully completed the task assigned to her within 24 hours by the combined support of her team. " There were around 100 to 150 BJP members at a five-star hotel in Gurugram’s Udyog Vihar. My team and I developed a strategy to break the barriers and rescue our MLAs who were protected into 5109, 5110 and 5111 rooms," said Sonia.
Duhan told that the BJP members were working on shift-basis to safeguard the MLAs. " We found that a new set of BJP guards were being replaced once in a while. We got only 2 minutes between the replacement of new guards. Therefore once the old guards were out, we moved fast and rescued our 1st MLA. The second MLA was also rescued in the same manner".
"It was only during the rescue of 3rd MLA, we had to argue with the BJP members face to face. Finally, we got all the 3 MLAs and escorted them to Sharad Pawar's house in Delhi. The fourth MLA was rescued from other another place," Sonia added.
