A man from Bombay reportedly lost 50 per cent share of his father's property after he refused to accept his stepmother. Reportedly, the man's mother died four years ago after which his father remarried.
Due to the son's insistence, the father transferred 50 per cent share of his flat to him. However, soon after the transfer, the son and his wife started treating the stepmother badly. Enraged by their behaviour, the father went to the sub-divisional revenue officer (SDO) to get back the share he transferred.
The provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 was invoked and in 2017 the SDO declared the share illegal. The son went to the court challenging the SDO's order. However, the HC dismissed his petition and upheld the SDO's order.
