Puducherry Chief Minister Narayanasamy on Tuesday warned that violation of Section 144 within the Union Territory will lead to one year imprisonment.
This comes after people seemed to have paid less heed to the curfew as they continued gathering in public locations.
Section 144 was imposed in Puducherry till March 31 to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.
"None should come out of their houses and all vehicular movements would be suspended unless for a genuine and compelling reason," Narayanasamy told reporters on Monday.
Similarly, Section 144 was imposed in Tamil Nadu on Monday to contain the spread. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy on Tuesday announced a slew of welfare measures in the state assembly including free ration, relief funds and special wages to come to grips with the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.
