Home > News Shots > IndiaThe Crime Branch of Kerala on Sunday revealed that the death of the 25-year-old woman reported on May 7th was a murder. The victim’s husband and his friend have been arrested, after the branch solved the case.
Uthra, the deceased had been subjected to two snake bites within a span of one week. While speaking to the media, Kollam districts SP, Hari Sankar said that the death was conspired by Uthra’s husband Suraj and his friend Suresh, a snake catcher.
"The first attempt to kill Uthra failed as she recovered after the snake bite. Two days after she was discharged from the hospital, Suraj bought another snake on April 24. He kept it in a container. On the night of May 6, he placed the snake on the bed while she was sleeping. The snake bit her twice. He tried to retrieve the snake, but failed. Next morning he went out and her mother found her lying unconscious. They took her to the hospital, but she was declared brought dead. Later, when they returned to the house, the snake was located and killed,” he said.
The first snake bite had happened at Uthra’s husband’s house. However, when the second incident took place, she was staying at her parents’ house. After considering the fact that on May 6, Uthra was sleeping in an air conditioned room, where the doors and windows were sealed, her parents suspected it to have been an unnatural death. Following this, the parents forged a complaint and the case was taken up by the crime branch.
After investigating the case, the police found that Suresh had provided Suraj with the snakes. He first provided a poisonous Viper for Rs 10,000. After which, he supplied Suraj with a Cobra for Rs 10,000.
Suraj is said to have committed the crime, since he wanted another wife. Uthra’s parents added that the both of them were facing some problems and that Uthra was being forced to give him money. The couple also have a one-year-old child.
