Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two new expressways - Rs 7,500 crore 14-lane Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Rs 11,000-crore Eastern Peripheral Expressway - on Sunday.
While it currently takes nearly two-and-a-half hours to travel between Delhi and Meerut, the newly built expressway reduces the travel time by 40 minutes, say reports. PM Modi described the expressway as “road to freedom from pollution”. It will do away with 31 traffic signals on the Delhi-Meerut road, the busiest highway in the region
The Eastern Peripheral Expressway, on the other hand, stretches for 135 km and connects Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Palwal. The signal-free expressway is expected to facilitate about two lakh vehicles, including trucks and commercial traffic, ply without entering New Delhi.India's first highway to be lit by solar power will bring down pollution as it will divert about 50,000, claim reports.
