Home > News Shots > IndiaThe oxford vaccine candidate Covishield is likely to be priced around $3 per dose in low middle-income countries according to reports. Hence, Covishield, which is going to be manufactured by Serum Institute of India (SII) will cost around Rs. 255 per dose in India.
The vaccine got approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to conduct phase 2/3 clinical trials in India. The vaccine is undergoing phase 3 trials in UK and Brazil while it is in phase1/ 2 in South Africa.
SII announced that it has entered into a new partnership with Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to speed up the manufacturing and delivery process of up to 00 million doses of the vaccine which will be made available in India and low- income countries.
As per media reports, the vaccine is likely to be available on November or December 2020.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that six vaccine candidates against the novel coronavirus have entered the phase 3 trials. Apart from the Oxford/AstraZeneca's vaccine, five other candidates that are currently in the phase 3 trials are from Moderna/NIAID, BioNTech/Fosun Pharma/Pfizer, Sinovac, Wuhan Institute of Biological Products/Sinopharm and Beijing Institute of Biological Products/Sinopharm,” Times Now reported.
