According to a report by Quint, Pune University has announced a new rule that only students who are vegetarians and do not consume alcohol will be considered eligible for receiving gold medals. Only students who fall into this category can consider candidacy for gold medals which will go out in the name of ‘Shelar Mama’, the prestigious university reportedly added. The candidates have to send in their applications before November 15, says the report. In its defence, the college added that it didn't set the rule but it was done at the behest of those who had set up the award.
