According to reports, two young men set themselves on fire outside the office of a lawmaker of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti party in Karim Nagar of Telangana on Sunday. They alleged that an officer at the village revenue office demanded Rs 20,000 bribe when they went to claim land under a scheme for Dalits or underprivileged farmers. M Srinivas, 25, and Y Parushuramulu, 23, both farmers in Karimnagar, were admitted to hospital with severe burns. The victims, along with other villagers, were made to wait for more than five hours, and later asked to leave when went to complain about the bribe demand to the MLA.
