Sikkim’s Pawan Chamling on Saturday surpassed West Bengal’s Jyoti Basu as the longest serving Chief Minister in India. Chamling took office on December 12, 1994, and has led Sikkim Democratic Front to five successive electoral victories, says a Times of India report. Meanwhile, Basu had been Chief Minister for five terms from June 21, 1977, to November 6, 2000.
