In a tragic incident that took place in Amritsar, sweepers cleaning the Howrah Express on December 22 found a newly-born baby boy flushed down the toilet. The baby was naked and was strangulated by a dupatta. The sweepers pulled him out of the toilet at the washing platform.
The baby was found when a worker spotted one end of a dupatta lying out of a toilet in the train’s AC compartment D-3. The baby, not more than a day old, was pulled out with the dupatta tied around his neck.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the workers were surprised to see that the boy was alive. They took him to Amritsar civil hospital and informed the police about the incident. The police officials said the boy seemed to have remained in the toilet for more than four hours and managed to weather extreme cold.
Balbir Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Amritsar GRP said that the matter is being investigated and CCTV footage from the station are being examined.
