A 26-year-old man suspected to be a kidnapper was beaten to death by a mob on Wednesday in Bengaluru. Reportedly, Kaluram, a resident of Rajasthan was seen wandering in an area known for child-kidnapping.
Kaluram was caught, tied up and dragged on the roads as the people hit him mercilessly with sticks and clubs. By the time the police reached the spot and took him to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. DCP Ravi D Chennannavar reportedly said, "This tragic incident occurred because of rumours that were being circulated on social media about child abductors in the city. There are no such gangs in the City and people should not heed to such rumours."
On the early hours of Thursday, the police arrested nine, including two minors for lynching Kaluram.
