In an alleged case of ragging, atleast 150 first-year medical students were forced to shave their heads and salute their seniors.
This incident took place at the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Safai village. Videos of the incident, where students "bowing" to the seniors, were shared on social media.
After the video went viral, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Dr Raj Kumar, has opened up on the issue stating that the institution has special squads that keeps a check over ragging and has suspended students for similar incidents.
"We keep a strict vigil on such activities and we have a separate dean social welfare for students. We also have an anti-ragging committee to deal with complaints. The students can complain to the anti-ragging committee or even to their wardens," Vice-Chancellor said.
According to NDTV report, there were three videos that made headlines all over. In the first video, a small group of students, wearing white coats, can be seen walking in a single file. All of them have had their heads shaved. While in the second video, few students can be seen jogging and giving salutes to a group of seniors.
Finally in the third video, a security guard is seen standing near the students, who takes no action to stop the alleged ragging.
Days after the video went viral, the Vice-Chancellor while speaking to ANI news agency has promised that action will be taken in this matter.
