MARRIAGE CALLED OFF; GROOM'S FAMILY THRASHED DUE TO "CHICKEN DISH"

Lakhimpur Kheri: Food is a main part of marriage; a lot is spent on food to feed the guests and keep them satisfied. However, it also creates a lot of slur when something goes wrong. But nothing would compare to this incident that happened in a wedding.

Initially, the families decided that both the sides will bring only 50 guests for the baraat. The bride's family was angry when 60-70 guests showed up as they have prepared the dish for only 50 people on groom's request.

According to a report in Times of India, the situation went out of control when the groom's uncle and two other family members were allegedly thrashed by the bride's relatives. The police had to intervene to control the situation.

"Both the villages are situated at a distance of merely 150 metres and the families had several common relatives. Since the girl's family was very poor they requested the groom's family to come in limited number of guests. Chicken was specially prepared on the request of groom for the guests. But after seeing 15-20 extra guests the girl's family asked the groom to reduce the number of guests. But it was taken as an insult by the groom's family and groom's uncle abused the other party which triggered the clash at the venue and the marriage was called off," the report quoted Sub-Inspector Suneel Kumar, In-charge of Sundarbal police post of Phoolbehar police station, as saying.
