UNION MINISTER APOLOGISES FOR CALLING TRANSGENDERS 'OTHER ONES'

Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi apologised for using the term 'the other ones' to refer to members of the transgender community during a debate in the Lok Sabha, while discussing the inclusion of information on prevention of human trafficking in school textbooks on Thursday. 

The minister's comment was met by sniggering and thumping from other members in the House, post which she drew flak for her insensitivity and promptly issued an apology. .
