MAN POURS PETROL ON SELF, THREATENING TO MARRY, 15-YEAR-OLD GIRLFRIEND SETS HIM ON FIRE

Lucknow: A 20-year-old man poured petrol all over himself to ask girlfriend to marry him was allegedly lit up by his 15-year-old girlfriend and sustained 60% burns. Police said that while the incident occurred on April 20, an FIR was lodged only on Saturday after his mother met SSP Lucknow and requested him to take action.

Later, a case of murderous assault against the girl and her mother was registered at Hasanganj police station. According to the police, he had taken fancy on the girl and wanted to marry her, reported TOI.

“The 15-year-old girl studies in class IX. Even though the girl’s family promised him that they would let the two get once the former becomes an adult, he didn’t want to wait,” said station house officer of Hasanganj police station.

In his statement to the police, he told that the girl and her mother came to his house to talk to him on April 20, but in a fit of rage he poured petrol all over him and threatened to kill himself if they don’t oblige. The girl allegedly threw a burning matchstick on him and set him ablaze. Then, they fled the scene.

His mother and neighbours took him to the hospital and doctors claim that his condition is critical. Police say that the statement will be taken as his dying declaration if he doesn’t survive.

However, his mother’s claim contradicts his statement. She did not interact with the media and filed a complaint to SSP instead of approaching the local police.
