VIDEO: DELHI UNDER BIG THREAT - HUGE SWARM OF LOCUSTS REACH PARTS OF THE CITY!
Home > News Shots > IndiaLarge swarms of locusts reached the outskirts of Delhi, after which the city government directed the district magistrates to make all possible arrangements for the people and how to district the locusts.
Amid all possible measures, people have been asked to keep their doors and windows closed and cover outdoor plants with plastic sheets. Meanwhile, the District Magistrates have also been asked to be on high alert.
According to the officials, a locust invasion is unlikely in the national capital for now as the pests are moving from east to west and have reached Faridabad from where they are expected to enter Uttar Pradesh.
Since the past few months, locusts have attacked and destroyed crops in various parts of the country like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier in the day, huge swarms were seen in Gurugram as residents posted multiple videos showing massive clusters of the insects flying in the skies.
Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has asked the national capital's south and west districts' administrations to remain on high alert. The swarms of locusts, spread across two kilometres. They entered Gurugram around 11.30 am, said KL Gurjar of the Locust Warning Organisation, Ministry of Agriculture.
According to experts, there are four species of locusts found in India, desert locust, migratory locust, Bombay locust and tree locust. The desert locust is considered the most destructive one.
