Bhausaheb Ahire was like any other labourer. Working hard and earning peanuts in return. Imagine his shock when he received an Income Tax notice for Rs 1.5 crore!
“I received the I-T notice asking me to pay Rs 1.5 Cr. I am a labourer, who gets work only once or twice a week, I earn my livelihood that way. I've not seen even Rs 1 Lakh in my life, how can I pay Rs 1.05 Cr? This is fraudulence. Action should be taken,” (sic) Ahire was quoted as saying by ANI.
Mumbai-based Ahira claims that fraudsters have used his details to impersonate a bank account and carry out transactions involving huge amounts of money.
Just recently, there was an incident similar to this. Ravi Gupta from Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, who earns about Rs 6,000 a month was sent an Income Tax notice for Rs 3 crore.
"In 2011, an account was opened using my pan card and photo, from which transaction of Rs 132 crore has been done. I haven't opened the account," Ravi was quoted as saying by ANI.
