A 21-year-old woman jumped off the Uber cab on Saturday evening after the driver changed route and kept driving ignoring her question as to why he changed route near Kolkata. She grabbed the driver’s cellphone from the dashboard and tried to break the windowpane. While she was unable to break the glass, she successfully unlocked the left front door.
She said that the cab took a sudden left towards Tangra from the Sealdah flyover instead of going straight ahead to the Moulali crossing and taking CIT Road.
She jumped as the cab slowed and shouted for help. Locals informed the police after intercepting the vehicle. The driver, Keshab Prasad, was detained on kidnapping charges and remanded to five days' police custody.
The resident of Gobra Road in Beniapukur reportedly said that she boarded the cab in Shyambazar area and took the front seat as there were two male passengers on the rear seat. They got off in two different places, she said.
