According to reports, a couple was abused by their co-passengers for travelling in the general compartment of the local trains in Kolkata. The woman was allegedly wearing jeans and a top, for which she was verbally harassed by her co-passengers.
The woman and her friend boarded the train at Sealdah and had requested for some space to sit. However, the men nearby protested at their request and reportedly said, "This isn't the ladies compartment, go to the ladies compartment." An argument broke out between the woman and one of the men, who asked the couple to "go home and sit on each others' laps." He also reportedly told the girl to not wear such clothes and get on trains.
The couple reportedly registered a complaint at the Government Railway Police, which they confirmed on Monday.
