Following the Supreme Court's verdict on Section 377, the Kerala High Court allowed a lesbian couple to live together. The order comes weeks after SC's decision to decriminalise homosexuality.
The order was passed by a panel in the HC comprising of Justice CK Abdul Rehim and Justice K P Narayana Pisharody on Monday. The order comes following a petition filed by a 40-year-old woman who alleged that her 24-year-old partner was confined illegally by her family.
The petitioner alleged that she was physically and mentally tortured and even admitted to a mental hospital under the claims of being mentally unwell. She also anticipated a threat to her partner's life. She submitted that as per the SC's recent decision, she and her partner are entitled to live together.
