The fifth phase of Keezhadi excavation indicates the presence of most advanced and organized town planning and infrastructure on the banks of the Vaigai River.
The Archaeology Department of Tamil Nadu said two red-coloured terracotta pipes fitted to each other, probably used to transport water in those days, were discovered at 47 centimetres down the ground. The pipes were 60 centimetres long with an opening that is 20 centimetres in diameter.
While digging the same pit further, a few roof tiles and a brick structure were also discovered. Another important discovery is a filter-like structure which might have been used to filter liquids.
The fifth phase of excavation clearly shows that people then had advanced engineering knowledge and craftsmanship. Some experts also opine that there might be a larger town in the location, of which Keezhadi is a part.
After four months of exploration, the fifth phase of excavation ended on October 13. In the 51 pits dug, the department has unearthed over 900 artefacts
