A seventeen-year-old boy in Mangaluru, put his friend in a suitcase and tried to sneak him into his apartment. The incident occurred at around 2- 3 am on Sunday. The teenager lives in an apartment on Arya Samaj Road where outsiders and visitors haven’t been allowed since the lockdown began 18 days ago. The teenagers felt bored & lonely and resorted to this bizarre attempt at cramping his friend inside a suitcase and sneaking him in.
The boy went out in a two-wheeler with a huge suitcase at around 2 am. His friend arrived to a nearby house on foot. He made the friend to slip inside the suitcase, zipped it up and wheeled it back into the apartment.
The watchman became suspicious and spotted some strange movement inside the suitcase. Fortunately, the watchman noticed the peculiarity before the boy began suffocating inside the suitcase. He immediately alerted few residents and also informed the parents. The apartment association informed the police and took the boys and their parents to the local police station.
According to a media report from Telegraph, the police source reminded the boys about COVID- 19 protocol and let them off with a warning. The police did not reveal the identities of the boys since they were minors.
Psychiatrists have been mentioning time and again that the long confinement period at home could put kids’ mental health under stress leading to unusual behaviour. Parents are supposed to be extra careful and constantly monitor children in times like these.
