Actor-turned politician Kamal Haasan has said that his party, the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) is ready to join hands with the Congress for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, if they snap their ties with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
In an interview with a local television channel, Haasan said, “there is a possibility that DMK-Congress alliance may break before parliament polls. If that happens, MNM will ally with Congress and contest elections.”
Earlier this year, Haasan met Congress President Rahul Gandhi, and said that they discussed the politicial situation in Tamil Nadu. But he dismissed speculation that an alliance between Congress and MNM was on cards.
Since launching his party, Haasan has said that his party aims to fight corruption and would stay away from parties which are "tainted". Last week, Kamal Haasan also hinted at the possibility of keeping his options open for a political alliance.
With the stage being set for the 2019 general elections, it would be interesting to see how things turn out for the MNM chief.
