On February 6, 13 masked robbers entered the Axis Bank branch in Ramesh Marg, Jaipur and attempted to loot Rs. 950 crore. While two remained outside to watch out for the authorities, the rest went inside the bank and tried to steal the money from the cash chest. Out of the four policemen who were stationed there to guard the chest, only one, Constable Sitaram was present at the spot. On spotting the robbers, he immediately tried to stop them by shooting at them. The robbers who were stunned by the unexpected firing instantly fled the spot. A manhunt has been launched by the police to track them down. Had the robbery been successful, it would have been India's biggest ever bank heist.
