According to reports, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday was granted interim protection till July 3 by the Delhi High Court from arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI had reportedly summoned Chidambaram on Wednesday to investigate him regarding the INX Media corruption case.
CBI's move came just as Chidambaram moved the Delhi HC to get anticipatory bail for protection from arrest against the INX Media case. P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram was already arrested by the CBI on February 28. He was later granted bail.
According to the CBI, in 2007 while P Chidambaram was the Finance Minister, Karti had allegedly taken a bribe to allow Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media. The case is currently being investigated by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate.
