According to a report released by United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday, India is the 12th worst among 52 lower middle-income countries. With over six lakh children dying within the first month of their birth in 2016, the country’s neonatal mortality rate stands at 25.4 deaths per 1,000 live births. Japan is the world's safest country with the Neonatal Mortality Rate of 0.9 deaths per 1,000 live births, followed by Iceland (1) and Singapore (1.1), says the report.
