Forest officials on Monday reportedly said that a peacock died after being manhandled by villagers, who were in a frenzy to take selfies with the national bird. The incident took place in Barighoria gram panchayat area of Dhupguri block in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Sunday. Police and forest officials have begun a probe into the incident.
The villagers tried to spread the bird’s wings, pulled its legs. Officials reportedly said some got hold of its tail, while others tugged at its crest.
