After encountering a lot of recent UPI-related scams, ICICI Bank had given warning to all the online banking users who are using UPI banking applications. Reportedly, a number of fraudulent incidents have been identified by the ICICI bank over UPI applications like Paytm, Google Pay and PhonePe to name a few. Therefore, ICICI bank has advised its users to be more cautious towards such incidents.
Some of the cautious measures as advised by ICICI Bank are listed below,
Please do not entertain suspicious calls from customer care centres. You might be asked to provide your debit/credit card details including your personal information. In such a case, disconnect the call without responding. Please remember fraudsters sound much convincing and sweet over phone.
Always setup UPI on your own without relying on somebody else and never share your OTP or PIN which you receive on your phone to anybody else
Recently, some of the fraudsters ask users to open a new VPA. Do not follow their request.
Do not click on the links that you receive through SMS from anyone
While using UPI applications, be smart enough to ignore the request to receive money via SMS as fraudsters might even generate OTP once you accept the request.
Always remember that OTPs will be generated only when you try to make a transaction for taking out money from your account and in any instance do not share your OTP via call
Another important thing to keep in mind is that you will never get an OTP if someone transfers or adds money to your account.
As per Gadgets now, it was stated that, ironically, people who were well-read and educated citizens also lost their presence of mind, thus admitting themselves as victims to such scams.
