CUT OFF HAND OF PUNJAB POLICE OFFICER REATTACHED AFTER 7.5 HOURS OF SURGERY

Doctors have succeeded at reattaching the wrist of the police officer who was attacked while questioning the lockdown violation. The attack took place in a vegetable market in Patiala, Punjab on Sunday. The attackers, identified as Nihang Sikhs fled the scene and efforts are being taken to arrest them. A video of the attackers breaking the barricades and attacking the policemen has also gone viral. ASI Harjeet Singh’s wrist was chopped off and two other policemen were injured. 

Hand of Punjab Police officer Reattached after Surgery

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh took to Twitter to mention that a seven and a half-hour long surgery was performed to operate the injured wrist of ASI Harijeet Singh. "I thank the entire team of doctors and support staff for their painstaking effort. Wishing ASI Harjeet Singh a speedy recovery," Mr. Singh tweeted.

“This was a technically very complex and challenging surgery, which has been successfully done," Dr. Jagat Ram, Director of PGI hospital told India Today. The doctors have confirmed that the officer’s hands appear warm, with good circulation. Dinkar Gupta, the Director-General of Police in Punjab had arranged for this surgery on Sunday after consulting Dr. Jagat Ram, the Director of PGI hospital and their plastic surgeon.

"Just spoke with the lead Plastic surgeon who did the successful surgery to stitch back the hand of our brave corona warrior ASI Harjeet Singh. Also spoke with Harjeet, who is in high spirits. We still have to wait and watch for the next five days," Mr. Gupta tweeted. He also told PTI, “Seven persons have been arrested”. Chief Secretary KVS Sidhu added that five of the seven arrested men were from the gang that launched "an unprovoked murderous assault on a police party, with sharp-edged weapons". Through public address systems, the offenders were asked to surrender. However, they haven’t.

Through a tweet, Punjab's CM has directed the police officers to deal in the "strictest possible manner" while adhering to the law.
