After the 23rd GST Council meet in Guwahati, GST rates for AC and non-AC restaurants were brought under a uniform GST rate of 5%, instead of 12% and 18% earlier. However, the move does not apply to restaurants located inside hotels with tariffs of Rs 7,500 and above and will continue to be charged at 18% with the benefit of input tax credit. The Federation of Hotels & Restaurants Association of India (FHRAI) welcomed the GST Council's decision to cut down tax rates.
