According to reports, customers do not have to pay any transaction charges for payments up to Rs 2,000 made through debit cards, BHIM UPI or Aadhaar-enabled payments systems from January 1. Earlier, the Cabinet had approved a decision to absorb all forms of Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for debit card transactions up to Rs 2,000, in an attempt to promote digital transactions.
