In an appalling incident, a Khap Panchayat in Bihar's Madhubani district passed a draconian order against two girls who were being eve-teased, reports Times Now.
Two girls were allegedly punished for resisting eve teasers from their village and were brutally beaten up and had their hair cut. The panchayat termed them "characterless" and called it a "lesson" for them.
The girls are cousins and they were collecting wood for fuel from a field when the two molesters eve teased the two girls. One minor girl resisted them, offended by their behaviour. Enraged by it, the molesters allegedly asked the Khap Panchayat to convene.
Instead of supporting the girls, the panchayat allegedly held the girls guilty and called them characterless. The villagers allegedly chopped off their hair and the girls were brutally beaten up with them getting blows in the stomach.
Zee News reports state that when their brother objected to such inhumane treatment, he was badly whipped with sticks till he fell unconscious. The victims alleged that their brother was thrown on a roadside after villagers thought he had died from their beating.
The family of the victims has been allegedly fined Rs 2 lakhs for the "characterless behaviour" of the girls by the Khap Panchayat. They were also verbally abused by the villagers and the Khap Panchayat tried to justify this barbaric incident by calling it a "lesson" to the "unruly and characterless" girls, the report said.
