According to reports, a private firm hired by NHAI faked details for an NH47 road project and hiked the project cost by at least Rs 700 crore.The company was reportedly hired to submit a feasibility report on upgrading the stretch between Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari. The firm, however, reportedly faked details to propose a new 70km four-lane stretch. The new proposal allegedly took the project cost to Rs 1,200 crore from the original estimate of Rs 480 crore to Rs 500 crore. Allegedly, the firm’s proposal will benefit a large infrastructure company.
