FAT-SHAMED BY HUSBAND, 27-YEAR-OLD ENDS LIFE

A 27-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district committed suicide after insulted by her husband, his uncle and aunt for being ‘fat’. A video of the woman recounting her ordeal went viral and revealed the cause of her suicide. In the purported video, she alleged that she was tortured and forced to go on a diet. They even allegedly stopped her from visiting her parents as she would disclose her suffering. The woman also alleged that her in-laws made a video when she broke down and threatened to make it public and claim that she was mentally ill. “If I don’t return, people will think I’ve done something wrong; If I go back, they will torture me more,” she told in the video. Police booked the husband under various sections of IPC including abetment of suicide and dowry harassment.
