The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday reportedly filed a charge sheet against Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, in Patiala House court in Delhi. The 99-page charge sheet was submitted in the court in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case. The court announced that it will hear arguments on the case on July 4.
Karti was released on bail after his arrest at the Chennai airport on February 28 when he returned from the UK. He is accused of receiving funds up to Rs 10 lakh for getting the FIPB clearance to INX Media when his father was the finance minister in 2007.
The ED is probing the alleged irregularities in getting the FIPB approval to the Malaysia-based Maxis group for investment in the telecom company, Aircel, in 2006. It is alleged that Karti received kickbacks for the approval from P Chidambaram, who was then the Union Finance Minister.
