FAKE NEWS MENACE: EC TO MONITOR SOCIAL MEDIA BEFORE 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS

The Election Commission of India is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the upcoming 2019 general elections is conducted in a fair manner and has as such constituted a panel to monitor social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, etc, in an effort to curb the menace of fake and paid news, said EC commissioner Ashok Lavasa.

In the recent past, fake news about child kidnappers and cow smugglers had lead to the death of 24 innocent civilians.

Elections being conducted in the second most populated country in the world is an arduous task in itself.
