Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday announced that a fine of Rs 2,500 will be imposed on people seen drinking in public in Goa. Parrikar said, "Mind you, there will be a heavy fine if you are found drinking (in public) from August. We are issuing a notification very soon. I intend to do it before August, so that we can implement it from August 15."
Speaking at an event at the state-run Economic Development Corporation, Parrikar warned against littering the state with empty beer bottles and mentioned that he has seen college students drinking along the riverfront there. He also added that the empty bottles thrown on the rocks pose a threat to others.
The CM also condemned the use of plastic. He informed that the fine for carrying plastic and littering will go up from next month.
