DONALD TRUMP EXCITED ABOUT FIRST INDIAN VISIT; SAYS MILLIONS WILL WELCOME HIM
Home > News Shots > IndiaThe White House just recently announced that American President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are all set for their maiden voyage to India on February 24 and 25. Addressing reporters, Trump said that he’s quite excited. “I look forward to going to India. He (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) is a friend of mine. He’s a great gentleman.”
He further said that he had spoken to Modi over the weekend and in a phone conversation, the latter had said that millions and millions would welcome him (Trump) from the airport to the stadium (more on this, later).
Trump and Mrs Trump will be travelling to Ahmedabad in Gujarat and New Delhi during their visit.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the American President’s visit to India will further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, adding that the global strategic partnership between India and the United States is based on "trust, shared values, mutual respect and understanding", and marked by warmth and friendship between the people of the two countries.
"The relationship has further evolved under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and President Trump, with significant progress in all areas, including trade, defence, counter-terrorism, energy, coordination on regional and global issues as well as people-to-people ties," the MEA said in a statement.
Last year, Trump was supposed to attend the Republic Day parade but scheduling problems meant that the same wasn’t to happen.
During their two-day trip, Trump and the First Lady are to attend official engagements in Delhi and Ahmedabad and also interact with a cross-section of the Indian society. Modi and Trump are also expected to address a joint public rally at the newly-built Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.
