DECISION ON WHETHER MEDIA CAN USE THE WORD 'DALIT' TO BE MADE SOON

After the Bombay High Court asked the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to see if media houses can use 'Scheduled caste' instead of 'Dalit', the ministry on Wednesday said that a decision on the same would be taken by the Press Council of India.
The idea was earlier mooted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as well, which had advised ministries and states to use 'Scheduled Caste' instead of 'Dalit'.
However, Dalit activists argue that the name was picked by themselves and they don't see anything offensive or derogatory about the same.
