Home > News Shots > IndiaThe dead body of a seven- year- old girl was found inside a gunny bag in a decomposed state on the railway tracks in Mumbai. It was found along the tracks of the Masjid Station. The body of the child was recovered on Saturday.
The deceased victim was reported as missing over last two weeks. The girl went missing after she had stepped out of her house to play. When she did not return home, her parents filed a missing complaint with the Mumbai Police. The report was filed on May 30.
The CCTV footage recorded in that area shows a youth walking with a gunny bag on the back. The police have identified the man as a caterer who works near the child’s home.
After inquiring about the caterer, the police found out that he had went back to his home in Uttar Pradesh. Following this, his relatives were contacted and he was asked to come to Mumbai.
The accused was nabbed from the Mumbai Airport. Subsequently, during the interrogation the accused confessed to the murder of the girl and accepted that he dumped her body on the tracks. Following this, the seven- year- old girl’s body was recovered.
"Whether the girl was sexually assaulted will be established only after we get the postmortem report." The accused was booked under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Sandip Bhagidar, senior inspector told The Times of India.
