A 22-year old man was dragged out of his house in night, tied to a tree and burnt alive in Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh for allegedly sexually harassing a girl few months ago. The incident took place on Monday.
Police told media on Tuesday that a team rushed to the spot but the agitated villagers started fighting with each other and two vehicles were set ablaze.
The 22- year – old man has been identified as Ambika Prasad Patel. He was allegedly tied to a tree by Harishankar Shubham, Ram Milan and others.
The Superintendent of Police Abhishek Singh told that an FIR has been filed and both Harishankar and Shubham have been Arrested.
“Harishankar had lodged an FIR against Patel on March 1 for allegedly harassing his daughter and posting an objectionable photo of her on social media,” India Today cited in its report.
Police suspect that this could have been the cause behind the killing. Patel, was reportedly in jail at that time.
According to media reports, an FIR has been lodged against Patel under sections 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material) of the Information Technology Act, and 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
