Home > News Shots > IndiaThe Union Health Ministry on Saturday said India reported 991 new cases of the coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours, that has taken the tally to 14,378 cases while the COVID-19 deaths has risen to 480.
Taking a look at the most infected states, Maharashtra stands first then comes Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Out of the most infected cases, 1992 people have been cured, discharged or migrated.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extended the lockdown from April 14 to May 3 due to the rise of cases and death. Meanwhile, Lav Aggarwal, joint secretary with the health ministry, said, "The doubling rate in 19 states and Union territories are even lower than average doubling rate."
“Kerala, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Puducherry, Delhi, Bihar, Odisha, TN, Andhra Pradesh, UP, Punjab, Assam, Tripura all have low doubling rates of coronavirus cases,” Aggarwal added.
The Centre had also declared 170 COVID-19 hotspots across the country where 123 hotspot districts with large outbreaks and 47 hotspot districts with clusters.
Highlighting about the global cases, as per Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE), there are 2,243,512 confirmed cases of the deadly disease while 154,209 people have died so far.
