In yet another incident of caste-based violence, a 21-year-old man from Karimnagar in Telangana was thrashed by the family members of the woman he loved on Monday. The victim, Nandigottu Saikiran suffered injuries to his eyes, legs and back and is presently being treated at a hospital in Karimnagar.
Saikiran was apparently in a relationship with one Haritha, whom he had known since his school days. When the girl's family came to know about this, a gang of 20 people swooped in on Saikiran and hit him with belts, chappals and anything they could find.
Police registered cases under IPC section 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 324 (voluntarily cause hurt with deadly weapons) and 379 (punishment for theft) in which Haritha’s uncle, Komatireddy Ramgopal Reddy is named as the prime accused.
