In the Union Budget 2018 presented today by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, five lakh Wi-Fi hotspots will be set up in rural areas to provide easy Internet access for residents of rural areas. Rs.10,000 crore have been allocated in 2018-19 for phase two of BharatNet, the government’s scheme to connect the country’s villages with high-speed optical fibre network.
