Talking to reporters on Saturday evening, Union minister of state for labour and employment, Santosh Gangwar said that in a country as big as India, one or two rapes should not be made a big issue. He reportedly said, "In a big country like ours, if one or two incidents take place, much fuss should not be made over it."
He said that the government is taking all effective steps and that necessary action will be taken. After his statement created a huge controversy, he took to Twitter and said, "This is very serious & sensitive matter. Our govt under leadership of Shri @NarendraModi ji is very sensitive & it is government's progressive step to safeguard children & women. Ordinance is a step towards same. Media should not twist my statement."
