According to reports, a BJP corporator, Daya Gaikwad of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) was booked for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman from Thane. Reportedly, the woman had filed a complaint that the corporator, who is already married, repeatedly raped her between June and August on the promise of marriage. The Vartak Nagar police in Thane have booked Gaikwad under Section 376 of Indian Penal code. The police are also on the lookout Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) women’s wing chief Ashwini Dhumal and her husband Manoj for allegedly recording the act.
