While the coronavirus pandemic has widely affected various industries, resulting in job losses or pay cuts, the education-technology has been given an unexpected boost. Many of the companies in this industry are on a hiring spree.
The Economic times reported that there are currently around 12,000 active openings for permanent job opportunities across various levels in the industry. Some of the top employers are Byju’s, Vedantu, Unacademy, Whitehat Jr, and Simplilearn. Apart from this, over 90,000 contractual positions across educational technology firms are also ramped up as the demand for online learning has increased.
The experts said that this lockdown has accelerated the adoption of educational technology as the usage of internet and smartphones are its dire backbone. “The number of subscribers on Vedantu’s platform has grown exponentially to 9,20,000 with collections and revenue which grew by 80%,” Krishna Vedantu’s Chief Executive said.
“Educational technology providers such as Byju’s, Vedantu, Unacademy, Extramarks, Toppr have seen a surge in their user-base…This increase in new users, backed by continued investor interest, could drive growth in employment opportunities,” said Amitabh Jhingan, partner at EY Parthenon.
Top roles that are in demand include product development, instructors, content writers, UI/UX and app developers, sales professionals and technicians, but specifically, they expect domain expertise in the field of technology, product, finance, strategy and Human Resources.
Salaries could range from Rs.10 lakh for a fresher to Rs.50-80 lakh for a senior or top management role, said the Economic Times.
